01 / Storm Damage & Insurance
Storm Damage and Insurance Claims.
Most storm damage starts as a question. Here’s what we get asked most after hail and high winds move through Chicago and the surrounding suburbs.
Most hail and wind damage to roofs is not visible from the ground. You can’t walk outside after a storm and reliably tell whether your roof took damage by looking up at it. The signs that are visible from the ground, like granules collecting in gutters, dented flashing on the sections you can see, or missing shingles, are reliable indicators, but the absence of those signs doesn’t mean the roof wasn’t hit. A professional inspection from a contractor who actually gets on the roof is the only reliable way to assess post-storm damage. If a big storm has come through your area and you’re not sure whether your home was affected, schedule a free inspection. It costs nothing and gives you a clear answer. See our storm damage page for details.
Most standard homeowners policies cover hail and wind damage to roofs, siding, and gutters when the damage is caused by a covered weather event. Whether your claim is approved and how much it covers depends on your policy terms, your deductible, how well the damage is documented, and how the adjuster assesses the scope. Having a contractor who documents damage thoroughly and talks directly with your adjuster makes a real difference in how a claim settles. See our homeowners insurance claims page for a full walk-through of the process.
We inspect and document the damage first. We photograph every affected area and produce a written damage assessment. Then we file the claim with your insurer, or support you in filing it. We’re present at the adjuster inspection and walk through the damage with the adjuster directly. If the adjuster’s scope comes back lower than warranted, we dispute it on your behalf. Once the claim is approved, we complete the work. You pay your deductible, and insurance covers the rest up to the approved amount.
No. Call us first. We inspect and document the damage before any insurance conversation begins, and that documentation is what the claim is built on. If you call your insurer before having a proper inspection, they may send their own adjuster while you have no independent documentation of the damage, which puts you at a disadvantage.
When an insurance policy pays actual cash value rather than replacement cost value, the first claim payment includes a depreciation deduction. After the work is completed and you provide documentation, the insurance company usually releases the depreciation holdback as a final payment. We walk you through this as part of the claims process and help you collect the full approved settlement.

Roofing Questions.
Repair or replace, what materials we install, and how long the work takes. Here’s the honest version.
A repair fixes specific damaged or failing areas while the rest of the roof stays intact. A replacement removes the entire existing roof system down to the deck and installs a new one. The right call depends on how widespread the damage is, the age of the roof, and the overall condition of the material outside the damaged area. If your roof is newer and the damage is limited to a defined section, a repair is usually the right answer. If the roof is aging and the damage is widespread, or the underlying material has heavy wear throughout, a replacement usually delivers better long-term value. We give you an honest assessment either way. See our roofing page for more.
Most standard residential roof replacements are finished in one day. Larger homes, roofs with lots of dormers or steep pitches, and materials like cedar shake or DaVinci composite can take two or three days. We give you a realistic timeline at the estimate stage so you know what to plan for.
We install asphalt shingle, cedar shake, and DaVinci composite roofing. Asphalt shingle is the practical choice for most homes: cost-effective, durable, and available in a wide range of profiles and performance tiers, from impact-resistant to lifetime-rated products. Cedar shake gives a natural wood look and suits larger or custom homes well. DaVinci composite copies cedar’s look with less upkeep and strong impact resistance. The right material depends on your home’s architecture, your budget, and your long-term plans. See our roofing page for a side-by-side comparison.
On cedar shake, matching an existing install closely means sourcing the right shake profile, dimension, and species. We can match most standard cedar installs, though exact color matching depends on the age of the existing material, since cedar weathers a lot over time. We’ll look at the match possibilities before work starts and give you an honest answer. On DaVinci and asphalt, color matching is easier when the product line is current. For older products that may have been discontinued, we’ll find the closest available match.
Yes. We install and maintain TPO, EPDM, and PVC membrane roofing on commercial flat and low-slope roofs, and we apply commercial roof coatings. We also handle commercial insurance claims. See our commercial roofing page for details.
03 / Siding & Gutters
Siding and Gutters.
Storms hit more than the roof. Here’s what people ask about the rest of the exterior.
We install vinyl, fiber cement, and brick siding. Vinyl is cost-effective and low-maintenance. Fiber cement gives better impact resistance, a more realistic wood look, and can be repainted. Brick offers the highest durability and the lowest long-term upkeep of the three. See our siding page for a comparison.
Yes, and doing the full exterior together has real advantages. When several parts of your exterior are damaged in the same storm, calling one contractor keeps everything on a single schedule and avoids rework where the roof, siding, and gutters meet. One job site, one schedule, one point of contact.
Most homes in the Chicago area do well with at least one cleaning per year, done in fall after the leaves are down. Homes with heavy tree cover often need a second cleaning in spring. See our gutters page for details.
Got a Door Knock From a Roofer After the Last Storm? Ask a Few Questions First.
Be careful with any contractor who shows up unsolicited after a storm. Established local roofers don't need to canvass neighborhoods, because they already have a local reputation and a referral base. Before you commit to anything, ask for a contractor license number, a local office address, and references from recent nearby projects. We're happy to give you all three.
