Our Process: What to Expect When You Work With RX.
A roofing or exterior project is a big event for your home. Knowing exactly what happens at each step, and what you need to do at each stage, makes the whole thing less stressful. Here's how a project with our team works, from first contact through completion.
01 / Start to Finish
Eight Clear Steps, No Surprises.
Crews on your property, materials in your driveway, a change to your normal day. A project like this comes with moving parts, and a lot of stress comes from not knowing what’s next. So we lay it all out up front.
From the first inspection to the final walkthrough, you always know what’s happening, what we recommend, and what we need from you. You get things in writing at every stage, and a real person to call when you have a question.
02 / The First Three Steps
Inspection, Findings, and Your Estimate.
Every project starts with us getting on the roof and telling you the truth about what we find. From there we talk it through, then put a written estimate in your hands.
01
Free Inspection
Every project starts with an inspection. For storm work, we inspect your roof, siding, and gutters at no cost and produce a written report of what we find.
For other projects, we inspect the current conditions to set the scope before we write a quote. We get on the roof, photograph everything relevant, then come down and walk you through it. You get a written summary before we discuss any next steps.
What you do: Be available to talk through what we find, or let us know if you’d like the report sent first.
02
Review the Findings and Scope
We explain what we found, what we recommend, and why. If there’s a repair versus replacement decision, we walk through it honestly. If your project involves an insurance claim, we explain what the damage supports and what the claims process looks like.
This is your time to ask questions. We’d rather spend thirty minutes answering them clearly than have you move forward without fully understanding what you’re agreeing to.
What you do: Ask the questions you have. There are no bad questions about a project this size.
03
Material Selection and Estimate
Once you decide to move forward, we walk through your options. For roofing, that means shingle profiles, manufacturers, performance tiers, and colors. For siding, material type, profiles, and colors.
We provide a written estimate that spells out the scope of work, materials by product name and specification, timeline, and pricing. No verbal promises that aren’t in writing.
What you do: Review the estimate carefully. If anything is unclear or missing, ask before you sign.
03 / Step 4: Insurance Claim
If There's a Claim, This Is Where We Take Over.
If your project involves a homeowners or commercial insurance claim, we handle the process. We file the claim, schedule the adjuster inspection, and attend it with you. We communicate with the adjuster on your behalf, provide our documentation, and follow up through the approval. If the adjuster’s first scope comes in lower than the damage warrants, we handle the dispute or supplement. Most storm damage claims involve at least one round of scope review before the final settlement is agreed.
- We file the claim and schedule the adjuster
- We attend the inspection and provide our documentation
- We handle disputes and supplements when scope falls short
What you do: Share your insurance carrier and policy number, be available for a short call after the adjuster visit, and review and sign the final claim approval before work begins.
04 / Permits and Prep
Getting Ready to Build.
Before a single shingle goes on, we handle the paperwork and protect your property. You get a specific start date, not a vague range.
05
Permits and Scheduling
Many exterior projects in the Chicago area require building permits. We manage the permit application and the paperwork that goes with it.
Timelines vary by town: some issue permits over the counter, others take a few days to a few weeks. Once permits are in order, we schedule the install and give you a specific start date. If anything changes the schedule before that date, we tell you clearly.
What you do: Let us know if your town has specific requirements or an HOA approval process we need to account for.
06
Preparation and Delivery
The day before or the morning of install, materials are delivered to the job site. For roofing, that means bundles of shingles, underlayment, and accessories staged in your driveway or on the roof.
For siding, materials are staged nearby. We set up protection for your landscaping, driveway, and any areas below the work zone, and drip tarps go down to catch debris. We let you know what to expect with noise, access, and parking.
What you do: Clear the driveway if you can, move vehicles away from the work zone, and keep children and pets clear of the work area.
05 / Step 7: Installation
Our Crew Gets It Done, and Cleans Up Behind Themselves.
Our crew completes the work. On most roof replacements, that’s a one-day job. Larger or more complex scopes may run two to three days. We work through the day and clean up at the end of each one, including a magnet sweep for nails across the driveway and lawn. We don’t disappear mid-job. If you have a question or concern during the install, we want to hear it in real time. If we find anything unexpected that affects scope or cost, we reach out before we keep going.
- Most roof replacements wrap in a single day
- End-of-day cleanup with a nail magnet sweep
- A call before continuing if anything unexpected turns up
What you do: You don’t need to be home, though many clients like to be available for questions.
06 / Step 8: Final Walkthrough
We Walk the Finished Work With You.
When the work is complete, we do a final walkthrough together. We point out what was done, check that the cleanup is finished, and answer any questions about the finished job. You receive documentation of the completed project: what was installed, the materials used, and your warranty coverage. For insurance projects, we provide the completion paperwork your insurer needs to release any depreciation holdback.
What you do: Walk through the finished work with us. Ask about anything that doesn’t look right. Sign off on completion once you’re satisfied.

The Job Isn't Over the Day We Drive Off.
Your workmanship warranty and the manufacturer material warranties run from the completion date. If you notice anything that looks like an installation issue in the months after the project, call us. We come back and assess it. We also do follow-up maintenance: if your roof or siding is a few years out and you want a professional check-in, we provide that and build a documented inspection history.
