When a hailstorm rolls through, the roof gets most of the attention. But hail hits every surface on your home, and siding takes a lot of that impact. 01 / Hail Damage to Siding

Damaged Siding Is More Than a Cosmetic Problem.

When a hailstorm rolls through the Chicago area, the roof gets most of the attention. But hail hits every exposed surface on your home, and siding takes a real share of that impact. Cracks, holes, and broken panels are not just an eyesore. They let moisture get behind the wall, which leads to insulation damage, rot in the sheathing, and, over time, moisture problems on the inside of your home.

RX Roofing & Construction repairs hail-damaged siding throughout the Chicago area. We handle vinyl, fiber cement, and brick siding, and we work directly with your homeowners insurance through the claims process. When a storm damages both your roof and your siding, we coordinate the full restoration under one contractor.

02 / How Hail Damages Each Material

Not Every Siding Type Reacts the Same Way.

Knowing what to look for on your specific siding type helps you tell whether your home was affected after a storm. Here is how each of the three materials we work with responds to hail.

Vinyl Siding

Vinyl is the most likely to show visible hail damage. Hailstones crack and puncture the panel surface, leave circular dents, and can shatter panels entirely when the hail is large enough.

Cracked or punctured vinyl lets water into the wall cavity behind the siding. Bigger damage is often visible from the street, but smaller impacts may take a closer look along the panel surface to spot.

Fiber Cement Siding

Fiber cement is more rigid and impact-resistant than vinyl, but it is not immune. Large hail can chip, crack, and fracture the panel surface, taking off the protective paint and finish layer.

Once that surface is broken, moisture can get into the panel and make it swell, delaminate, or soften over time. Fiber cement hail damage is sometimes subtle and takes a close inspection to find.

Brick Siding

Solid brick is the most hail-resistant of the three. The brick face itself is unlikely to crack under typical hail. The mortar joints between bricks are more vulnerable, though, and repeated hits from large hail events can damage mortar and open gaps that let moisture in.

Metal trim, flashing, and accessories around brick sections can also take impact damage worth a look.

Storm Damage & Insurance Coverage

Hail Damage to Siding Is Usually Covered.

Hail damage to siding is covered under most standard homeowners insurance policies in the Chicago area, often alongside roof damage from the same storm. When one storm damages both your roof and your siding, the claim typically covers both under a single deductible.

We document siding damage the same way we document roof damage: photos of each affected area, written notes on the damage type and extent, and a clear scope of repair that supports the claim. We work directly with your adjuster and handle the back-and-forth through approval. And when the siding on one side of a home is damaged and replacing only those panels will not match the undamaged sides, the claim may also cover full re-siding to get a consistent look. We handle those situations regularly and know how to present that argument to adjusters when it applies.

04 / Roof & Siding From the Same Storm

One Storm, One Contractor, One Claim.

Hail events usually hit every exposed surface. If your siding was damaged, there is a strong chance your roof was too. We inspect both during the same visit and document the full scope of storm damage in a single report.

Handling both repairs under one contractor also keeps your claim, your project schedule, and your materials coordination simple. You are not managing a roofing crew and a siding crew from two separate companies.

05 / Siding Materials We Install

Vinyl, Fiber Cement, and Brick.

We repair and replace vinyl, fiber cement, and brick siding. For damaged sections where a patch repair will not match the surrounding material closely enough, we can replace full sections or whole walls to bring back a uniform appearance.
